Turkey And Dressing Casserole

Total Time: 50 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 celery rib, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup coarsely crumbled cornbread
  • 1 cup cubed day old bread
  • 2 tablespoons chicken or 2 tablespoons turkey broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash pepper
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chicken or 1 cup turkey broth
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed cooked turkey
  • dry breadcrumbs (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 in small skillet, saute celery and onions until tender.
  • 2 transfer to a large bowl and stir in corn bread, cubed bread, broth and seasonings.
  • 3 transfer to a greased 1 qt baking dish.
  • 4 for gravy.
  • 5 melt butter in large saucepan.
  • 6 whisk in flour and salt until smooth.
  • 7 gradually add broth and milk.
  • 8 bring to a boil, reduce heat, cook and stir for 2 minute.
  • 9 remove from heat. stir a small amount of hot mixture into the egg and return all to the pan, stirring constantly.
  • 10 bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir for 2 min longer.
  • 11 spoon half of the gravy mixture over the dressing.
  • 12 layer with turkey and remaining gravy.
  • 13 sprinkle with bread crumbs if desired.
  • 14 cover and bake at 350 for 25-30 minute.
