Turkey Devonshire A La Quick & Easy

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 3/4 cup milk or 3/4 cup carb countdown low-carb milk
  • 1 cup shredded new york cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices hearty type bread (optional)
  • 4 slices cooked turkey breast, thick slices (see note)
  • 8 slices cooked bacon
  • fresh ground pepper

Recipe

  • 1 note:.
  • 2 enough turkey to cover the bread (we used deli turkey, sliced 1/4-inch thick)
  • 3 toast bread.
  • 4 heat turkey and bacon in the microwave.
  • 5 sauce:.
  • 6 in a small, stainless steel sauce pan, melt butter or margarine over low heat.
  • 7 whisk in flour.
  • 8 add milk all at once.
  • 9 increase heat to medium and continue whisking.
  • 10 heat until mixture is bubbling.
  • 11 cook one minute longer, whisking continuously.
  • 12 whisk in cheese. stir until melted.
  • 13 add pepper to taste.

  • 16 prepare four serving dishes by placing a potato and a serving of broccoli, or your choice of sides, on each.
  • 17 place one piece of toast on each plate.
  • 18 top with two slices bacon, then cover with turkey.
  • 19 pour equal portions of sauce over each. serve any extra sauce on the side.
  • 20 variation:
  • 21 place in four small casserole dishes, prepare the devonshire as above.
  • 22 place under the broiler for two minutes or until the sauce is browned on top.
  • 23 serve the sides on separate small plates.
  • 24 warn your guests these dishes are hot!
  • 25 hints: using precooked turkey and bacon saves time.
  • 26 shred cheese or buy shredded.
  • 27 turkey can be cooked in the microwave, leftover, or bought in the deli.
  • 28 if you choose deli turkey, be sure to get it cut about 1/4-inch thick.
